Overview

Our devices can only be rented by MM/MI/CSM students. You may be eligible for rental if you have a study-related project and do not have a device that is suitable for the tasks needed to complete the project.

Booking an appointment

Please go to our appointment page to book an appointment for device rental or return (Requires JavaScript).

During the Rental

Please treat the rented devices with care.

Note that the devices are not insured by the HdM while rented to you. You are liable for any damage or loss.

End of Rental

  • Do not reset your device or logout your account. We will do that together.
    • Have your Apple-ID password ready. We'll need that to log you out of the device!
  • Please make sure that your device is charged when you return it.

Reinstalling MacBook

The new MacBooks with the M1 chip have a different reset procedure. Please check the label (e.g. macbook-air-m1-01) to know if you have a device with an M1 chip.

MacBooks WITH M-Chip (since 2020)

We do not reset the rental MacBooks. In order to reset them please hold down the power button. After a few seconds a menu pops up where you select the "Options" menu option.

Once the Internet Recovery started:

  • connect to WIFI (fyi: Eduroam does not work, and most of the time 5GHz networks don't either - you should use a 2,4GHz network)

  • after formatting hold down CMD+Q to return to the start screen
  • install MacOS
